disclosures

This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the accreditation requirements and policies of the Texas Medical Association (TMA) through the joint providership of Texas Pain Society (TPS) and Ophthalmic Anesthesia Society (OAS). The Texas Pain Society is accredited by TMA to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

Financial Disclosures: As an accredited CME provider, TPS requires that its speakers comply with the ACCME Standards for Commercial Support of CME. TPS has implemented a process where everyone in a position to control the content of an educational activity has disclosed to us all financial relationships with any commercial interest. In addition, should it be determined that a conflict of interest exists due to a financial relationship you may have, this will need to be resolved before the activity. To do this, please complete the disclosure of financial relationships form in the Speaker Information Form and return it to us by the indicated date. This information is necessary to move to the next steps in planning this activity.

A PDF of your presentation will be posted next to your lecture title at the end of the conference website unless you instruct otherwise on your disclosure form. In addition, you may provide a one-page handout or outline, as well as references for any supporting data.

You are responsible for obtaining permission to use any copyrighted materials used in conjunction with your presentation. Acceptable file formats for handouts include Word documents, PowerPoint slides, or PDFs. All handouts will be converted to PDF format.

Guidelines for PowerPoint Presentations

CME Compliance:

  • Presentations must not contain any marketing produced by or for an ineligible company, including corporate or product logos, trade names, or product group messages.
  • The beginning of your presentation should include a disclosure slide and should match those companies through your speaker form. If you have no financial disclosures, you still need a slide that states “No Financial Disclosures”
  • To ensure all attendees receive Continuing Medical Education credit, please be unbiased in your lecture. While we understand that some procedures are industry specific, we must ensure that when verbalizing those industries, we also recognize that the material presented is evidence-based and commercial, otherwise unavailable.

As an essential contributor to our accredited education, we would like to enlist your help to ensure that educational content is fair and balanced and that any clinical content presented supports safe, effective patient care. This includes the expectations that:

  • All recommendations for patient care in accredited continuing education must be based on current science, evidence, and clinical reasoning while giving a fair and balanced view of diagnostic and therapeutic options.
  • All scientific research referred to, reported, or used in accredited education to support or justify a patient care recommendation must conform to the generally accepted standards of experimental design, data collection, analysis, and interpretation.
  • Although accredited continuing education is an appropriate place to discuss, debate, and explore new and evolving topics, these areas must be clearly identified within the program and individual presentations. Accredited providers are responsible for facilitating engagement with these topics without advocating for or promoting practices that are not, or not yet, adequately based on current science, evidence, and clinical reasoning.
  • Content cannot be included in accredited education if it advocates for unscientific approaches to diagnosis or therapy or if the education promotes recommendations, treatment, or manners of practicing healthcare that is determined to have risks or dangers that outweigh the benefits or are known to be ineffective in the treatment of patients.
  • Any off-label discussions of pharmaceuticals or devices will be disclosed to the audience during the presentation.

These expectations are drawn from Standard 1 of the ACCME Standards for Integrity and Independence in Accredited Continuing Education. For more information, see accme.org/standards. Don’t hesitate to contact us if we can help you understand and apply these strategies to your education.

If you have any questions concerning the committee’s expectations or feel that objectives should be refined in any way, please contact us no later than January 9, 2024.

Please note that you should always give references when using copyrighted material in lectures. If you have any questions or concerns about using copyrighted materials or lecture videotaping in general, please get in touch with OAS at (414) 359-1628 or info@eyeanesthesia.org.

Your presentation MUST be received by the CME committee for initial review by January 28th, 2024. No changes are accepted after this time unless previously arranged with OAS staff.
